FAMILY AND CHILDREN’S DENTISTRY
At Sheppard Village Dental, we love helping entire families get healthier. Our focus on fun and holistic care help young children start their dental care with proper guidance and a positive dental experience. Many people have commented that THEY feel like part of our dental family when they come in to see us. We take a personalized approach to our care and make sure that you feel welcomed and appreciated at every visit.
We offer dental care for the whole family including preventive care, sealants, oral hygiene instructions, fillings, crowns, extractions, implants, and dentures. We also offer conscious sedation for patients who might be anxious, and we have the latest CEREC machine that allows us to provide crowns in a single visit, which is timesaving and convenient for our patients. We pride ourselves in providing a full range of services with a personalized touch. You and your family will always receive comprehensive and consistent care.
Starting with preventive care, our dental hygienists will assist you with regular routine maintenance of your mouth and help identify minor issues before they become bigger problems. We provide digital x-rays so we can accurately evaluate and diagnose the condition of your whole mouth as well as oral hygiene instruction to make sure you are taking care of your teeth at home in the most effective way.
In addition to basic routine dental services such as cleanings and fillings, many of our patients may need orthodontics or close monitoring of either their airways or wisdom teeth as they get older. Certain mouth habits or conditions can be detected early and treated to prevent problems such as crowding issues, retained baby teeth, narrow arches, thumb sucking, mouth breathing and restricted tongues.
By encouraging regular maintenance check-ups, we help our patients develop and stick with good habits. In many cases, if we find a problem early, we can prevent it from progressing. If left alone, it can be more complicated and expensive to treat.
At Sheppard Village Dental, we are dedicated to making sure your visits are comfortable and enjoyable. We strive to meet every family’s dental needs by offering a full range of services for all ages. Our biggest mission is to get to know you personally so it will feel more like a social visit when you come see us!

4 FAQ’s ABOUT FAMILY AND CHILDREN’S DENTAL CARE:
1. At what age should we bring our children in to the dentist for their first visit? We encourage
We encourage parents to bring in their children as early as two years old for a simple and quick initial exam instead of waiting until they have a cavity for their first visit! At this first visit, they can either watch mom or dad, or even an older sibling sit in the chair and get their teeth checked out. Then the child can either sit in your lap, or if they are older, sit by themselves as we count their teeth and get them used to having someone looking at their teeth with a light on and a mouth mirror.
2. Shouldn’t we go to a specialist for our children’s teeth?
Because our office is kid-friendly and our amazing team is committed to making sure those first visits are fun and exciting, most children are perfectly fine without a specialist. On occasion, we find that it might be more comfortable for a child if they see a specialist, particularly if they are very anxious. In those cases, we have several specialists nearby that we might refer to if needed. Our office is fully equipped to provide a full spectrum of care to all ages. Our patients appreciate not needing to go to various specialists at different clinics. Sheppard Village Dental can take care of your needs all in-house!
3. Why is it so important to come in for regular check-ups if I don’t have any pain
This is a good question and one that we hear from time-to-time. Gum disease is one of the most common human diseases. Oral bacteria has been linked to many health issues such as diabetes, stroke, or even premature birth in pregnant women. The symptoms of oral disease often go undetected until it has escalated to the point it requires more invasive care. This is why we encourage regular maintenance check-ups for everyone. Monitoring the oral tissues and watching for signs like teeth grinding, recession, sensitivity, bad breath, mouth breathing, and lesions on the cheeks and tongue are important because these can all be potentially related to other health issues.
4. What if I don’t have dental insurance?
The BEST insurance against dental issues is regular maintenance. It is the cheapest form of insurance you can have. While having dental benefits to cover some of the costs of care is convenient, dental insurance is really intended for those who are already healthy. If a patient focuses on their dental insurance plans instead of their dental needs, it often interferes with consistent proper care and can actually cost them MORE in the long run. Prioritizing your health is the best investment you can make.
